(KMOV) – The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center in East St. Louis is possibly on the brink of foreclosure, and its financial troubles were the focus of attention during an emergency meeting on Wednesday.
That meeting was not open to the public.
Board Chairman Rev. Earl Nance, Jr. says he is committed to saving the center, but isn’t offering many details on how he plans to do so.
Rev. Nance, Jr. won’t say how far behind the center is on its mortgage. But according to St. Clair County records, the center took out a $500,000 note in 2006. He says they had a meeting with the bank on Wednesday, and they are willing to be patient and hold off on foreclosure procedure for now.
Nance says they will need donations, and hopes that someone will give to help the center stay open. You can contact Rev. Nance at 314-401-1181.
