(BaseballStL) -- David Freese left Game 3’s loss with tightness in his right calf after hitting a single in the fifth inning Monday.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny doesn’t think the injury should keep the third baseman out of the lineup for a large chunk of time.
“At the time, all we could see is how he was responding and wasn't able to run,” Matheny said. “Came back, said it was a cramp, and they'll get a better look at it. So right now it's day‑to‑day and expect him to be ready to go.”
The Cardinal third baseman was cautiously optimistic after the game, saying he didn't feel like he was hurt seriously.
"It's tight. I don't think I strained it too badly but we'll check it out tomorrow," he said. When asked if he expected to play tomorrow, Freese said,"I don't know. It's sore. I'll come in tomorrow and try to test it out and hopefully I'm back in there."
Freese is 2-for-10 in the NLCS.
