(KMOV) –On Wednesday, March 12, Dr. Art McCoy announced his resignation as superintendent of the Ferguson-Florissant School District.

According to a mutual statement issued by the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education and Dr. McCoy, “It is mutually agreed and understood that full resolution of these matters is in the best interests of the Ferguson-Florissant School District. To those who have framed the issues as racially motivated, the parties are satisfied that each acted in good faith and with the best interests of the Ferguson-Florissant School District in mind.”

McCoy has been on paid administrative leave since early November, 2013

According to officials, the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education made the decision to place McCoy on leave based on differences in focus and philosophy. Officials said there was no indication of wrongdoing.

In December 2013, the Ferguson-Florissant School District released this statement, “The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has been notified by the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education of potential irregularities in mandatory reporting including district attendance. The Department will be reviewing this data and working with the school district to resolve any issues.”

District Chief Accountability Officer Larry Larrew has served as superintendent during the administrative leave. No word on who will step in as a permanent replacement.
