A family dog in being called a hero after a 3-year-old wandered away from his North Dakota home.
It all started when Carson Urness wasn’t coming into the house from playing outside in the farmyard.
‘And then, 7:30 rolled around, I figured he’d start getting hungry sometime,” said Carson’s mother, Courtney Urness.
Courtney scoured the farm yard, then got that feeling something was wrong and called 9-1-1.
Soon, more than 200 volunteers showed up, including family, friends, a search plane and search dog.
The family quickly realized the family dog, Cooper, was also missing. They hoped he was with Carson. And about 2 a.m. the next morning, the news came. Carson was found safe a mile away, with Cooper the farm dog on top of him.
Carson has been pretty quiet about the ordeal until he shared something with his mother.
“’Cooper laid on me. He kept me warm.’ And I said ‘what about your feet?’ And he said ‘no, not those,” said Courtney.
