(KMOV) – Illinois State election officials are investigating if St. Clair County violated rules in Tuesday’s primary elections.

The State Attorney General’s Office is now looking into complaints regarding absentee ballots were counted early.

St. Clair County Clerk said election workers did start processing ballots early but they were not counted.

According to Illinois State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly, it is not clear if the actions are criminal at this time.
