(KMOV) – The City of East St. Louis has made a name change to their new family-friendly district due to what Mayor Alvin Parks called a misinterpretation.
Parks told News 4 the city changed the name of the ‘Entertainment District to be ‘River’s Edge Business District” after some were confusing the family-friendly area for more of an adult entertainment area.
The original name gave the perception that it would only have night clubs, bars and other adult businesses.
The goal of this new area is to bring family businesses.
The funding for the district will come from private investors.
“The way you do it is you make sure the establishments that are going to be here have the necessary in-person presence such as lighting, cameras and the right security systems,” Parks said.
According to Parks, the city will also hire additional officers to patrol the streets. The money to pay for those officers will come out of the city’s budget.
