(KMOV) – A group of construction workers are being credited with catching a suspect who robbed a Belleville liquor store Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a man walked into Town and Country Liquors in the 1100 block of Centerville Ave. around 1:45 p.m.

The suspect, who deputies said is a regular customer, grabbed a female employee around the neck and threatened to blow her head off unless she handed over money.

Deputies said the employee, Joyce Mueller, put an unknown amount of cash into a bag and handed it to the suspect, who fled the scene.

Authorities said the Mueller then yelled out a drive-thru window that she’d just been robbed.

Deputies said some customers and an AC repairman chased the suspect to a nearby roundabout.

That’s when about a dozen construction workers joined in on the chase and tackled the suspect after catching him to him.

They then held the suspect at the scene until deputies arrived. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

“Everybody that comes here is a family, even workers feel like family,” said Mueller. “They all did their part and helped the guy. They did what they were supposed to do instead of standing back and watching.”

Authorities said they found scissors on the suspect, but a gun was never located.

Deputies said they expected charges to be filed Friday.
