(KMOV) – The United States Justice Department on Wednesday filed a discrimination lawsuit against the owners of an Effingham County, Ill mobile home.
According to the lawsuit, the owner and management of the Four Seasons Estates Mobile Home Park are making sure families with children and African-Americans don’t live there.
The lawsuit alleges black tenants had to complete a written applicant and get inspections white tenants did not.
The suit also claims owner Lorrain Wallschlaeger and employees Barbara Crubaugh and David Crubaugh threatened to evict a white tenant and his niece from the park if her black boyfriend did not leave. It alleges management refused to register the African-American boyfriend as a resident.
The lawsuit also says the defendants did not permit families with children to live on one of the four rows at the 126-space mobile home park.
The justice department says it seeks a court order prohibiting future discrimination.
