(KMOV) --- A child is in critical condition after he was ejected from the vehicle of a suspect who crashed while fleeing officers in south St. Louis Thursday afternoon.

Police say the driver of a silver Altima was spotted by a nearby St. Louis County police officer traveling at a high rate of speed on South Broadway towards River City Casino Blvd around 3:30 p.m.

As the officer attempted to perform a traffic stop, the suspect increased their speed and ran through several red lights along the way.

As the suspect crossed the intersection of Broadway and Marceau he failed to stop at the traffic signal and collided with several vehicles. The suspect’s vehicle then spun out of control and struck another vehicle before coming to a stop.

Police say a 3-year-old male child was ejected from the vehicle and was in critical condition at a local hospital.

Two adults suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The child was not in a car seat at the time of the collision.

Witnesses say the suspect was the child's father. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Additional information was not immediately available.
