(KMOV) -- Robo-calls are flooding Metro East phone lines over the pending gay marriage bill in Illinois.
The calls are from the African American Clergy Coalition in Chicago and they feature former State Senator James Meeks.
Coalition members are urging people to pressure East St. Louis State Representative Eddie Lee Jackson to vote against the bill which if passed would allow same-sex marriage in the state of Illinois.
“In my view, same sex marriage should not be law of the state of Illinois,” says Meeks in the recorded message.
Bishop Lance Davis of the AACC tells News 4, the calls have apparently forced Jackson to switch his position and oppose the bill. Calls to Jackson’s office were not returned.
The bill allowing gay marriage in Illinois was approved by the Senate in February. A vote in the House is expected this month.
