Cards playoff run may mean boon for downtown businesses

(KMOV.com) – A deep playoff could mean big bucks for Downtown St. Louis establishments.

“When the Cards make the playoffs it generates a lot more publicity,” horse and carriage driver Joseph Votoupal said.

Votoupal said that publicity means more business for him as downtown streets become more congested.

“It’s like summer all over again,” Votoupal said. “That’s our best time of year.”

Taxi drivers, and ticket and merchandise sellers plan on a big seeing a big payday from a deep Cardinals’ playoff run. Hotels and restaurants also stand to be big winners.

“If the Cards make it to World Series it basically triples out weekend numbers,” restaurant manager Ashley Rogers said.
