(KMOV) – News 4 warns viewers of new scam hitting the Florissant area with callers claiming to be officials for the St. Louis area.

Hollie Henderson of Florissant said a scammer called her and claimed to be a clerk with the St. Louis County records office.

The caller told Henderson there were some legal papers filed against her. As she inquired further, the caller warned that if she didn’t act now, a sheriff would pick her up and take her to jail.

Henderson recognized this as being a scam and did not send the caller $1,200 as they requested.

Experts say if someone on the phone wants money immediately, such as a credit card number or pre-paid debit card, it’s always a scam.
