(BaseballStL) -- The Dodgers will have superstar shortstop Hanley Ramirez in the lineup in a win-or-stay-home Game 5 of the NLCS against the Cardinals Wednesday.

One night after returning from a fractured rib suffered in Game 1, Ramirez left in the top of the seventh inning in Game 4 when the pain became too great.

Ramirez broke a bone in his rib when he was hit by a 95-mph fastball from Joe Kelly, who will start Game 5 for St. Louis, in the first inning in Game 1. He missed Game 2 bit returned to play the entirety of Game 3 in Los Angeles.

Ramirez told reporters after the 4-2 loss in Game 4 that he wasn’t sure if he would be ready to play in the must-win Game 5 Wednesday. But Dodgers manager Don Mattingly confirmed his three-hole hitter would be in the lineup for the do-or-die game.

“Again, day‑to‑day he seems that he's different from one day to the next,” Mattingly said. “He's saying today he feels better than yesterday. He wants to go. We'll see if they try to do anything different.”

Mattingly suggested the pain endured in Game 4 may have been a result from batting practice.

“In BP he was swinging the bat good, then I saw him swing late and kind of grab his side,” Mattingly said. “So I don't know if something happened in BP yesterday that irritated it and then it kind of set it off.”
