An Army veteran’s war training came in handy, but not in the way one would expect. Aaron Schneider says he used his combat lifesaver techniques to save a dog hit on a Missouri interstate.

Schneider was on his way home when he saw a car hit the beagle. He pulled over and ran across three lanes of traffic.

The dog was in so much pain he wouldn’t let Schneider pick him up.

The Iraq vet waited three hours in the rain for the beagle until he could get him to an animal hospital.

A veterinarian says the dog would have died if it wasn’t for Schneider. The little beagle, buster, now lives with Schneider.

So far, no one has claimed him.
