(KMOV.com) – Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly attacked a man with a hammer then fired gunshots at him Wednesday.

According to police documents the victim, a 53-year-old black male, was talking to his neighbor in the 4600 block of Enright Avenue when the suspect pulled up in a red minivan just after noon.

The suspect then reportedly began arguing with the victim over previous handiwork he had done at the home.

After the argument escalated, the suspect started swinging a hammer at the victim, striking him in the arms. The victim ran to his porch, and the suspect grabbed a gun from the van, firing four to five shots.

The victim was struck in the upper right leg. After being shot, the man went into his home and retrieved a gun. He returned fire, firing five shots at the suspect who then fled in his vehicle east on Enright.

The van is said to be a Dodge or Chrysler.

Police are investigating the incident.
