(KMOV) – A new sales tax hike goes into effect on Tuesday in St. Louis City and County.
It’s become known as the Arch Tax and collections on the 3/16th of a cent increase began on Tuesday.
The money is going toward arch ground renovations, parks and the Great Rivers Green-way.
"Great Rivers Green-way is going to be focused on some really important trail connections that people have been asking for. One of them is Grants Trail to the River Des Peres to the Jefferson Barracks - that’s a major hub of activity,” said Susan Trautman with the Great Rivers Green-way.
The hike averages out to an increase of about two cents on a ten dollar purchase. Voters approved “Prop P” in the April Elections of 2013.
