(KMOV) – Warrants were issued for two sex offenders after they failed to register in the state of Illinois.

Police believe Roger Lawver and Robert Schallenberg could be on the run and authorities are seeking help from the public on tracking them down.

Authorities say Lawver, 20, was convicted of a sex crime in Wisconsin but failed to register as an offender when he moved to Alton.  The second man, Schallenberg, 40, was charged as a child sex offender and has a lengthy criminal history.

Neighbors told News 4, they didn’t know the men were living nearby. They are worried after learning both criminals were unaccounted for.

“We have lots of children. Fortunately mine are grown, older, but there’s lots of little kids that live in this neighborhood and it’s terrifying to think that one of them could become a victim to this man,” said Kelly Lenhardt.

“Right now Alton police are looking for them and we’re asking for the public’s help, if anyone knows where these individuals might be, we’d love to hear about it so we can go pick them up,” said Officer Emily Hejna with the Alton Police Department.

Alton Police are investigating some leads but they do need help. If you’ve seen either of those sex offenders, call Alton Police.
