(KMOV) -- Many African American women are claiming a new Army regulation dealing with hair is racist.

The new policy prohibits twists, dreadlocks, and large cornrows. The styles are all used predominantly by African American women.

More than 11,000 people have signed a White House petition asking President Barack Obama to have the military review the regulation.
