(KMOV) -- Officers with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department arrested five people connected to a robbery where an elderly man was targeted.

The 77-year-old victim was on his daily walk in Belleville on West Blvd near Carlyle Ave at 3:30 a.m. Monday when investigators said, a group pushed him and went after his wallet.

Lt. Scott Weymouth said the victim was out so early because it was quiet and cool.

The robbery left the man with minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital to be treated.

The incident was enough to shock Deborah Conrad, who runs in the same area the elderly man was attacked.

“It is very scary.  I'll make sure to start my runs after three in the morning," said Conrad.

Weymouth expects the five who were arrested to be charged Friday with aggravated robbery.
