DUPO, Ill. (KMOV) – Two children were hospitalized after two school buses each containing about 35 students wrecked in Dupo, Illinois early Friday evening.

According to the police, a school bus pulled up to a stop sign near Bluffview Elementary School around 2:30 p.m.

Police said another school bus was driving along the same road when it failed to slow down in time and slammed into the back of the first bus.

One student was transported to Memorial Hospital while a second was taken to St. Anthony’s with apparent head and neck injuries. Officials said the injuries did not appear to be serious.

Several other students also suffered bumps and bruises, according to police.

Officials said both buses were part of the Dupo Community Unit School District 196.

Additional information was not immediately available.
