ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- It has been a long time coming, but the $18 million O'Fallon Park Recreational Complex is finally open.
The complex features a gym, indoor track, basketball courts and swimming pools. The complex was built after voters approved a sales tax hike in 2006 to pay for the project.
"Too many kids don’t have anything to do after school. Too many kids. We see groups of them on the corners after school and in the summertime,” said 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French, “Now we have a place to send them and say there are structured activities going on, a fun, safe place. And be here and not on the streets."
City residents who are 12 to 18 years old get a discounted membership of $25 a year. Other memberships range in price from $33 a year to $44 for adults.
There are discounts for low income families.
