SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- New mothers at a Springfield, Missouri hospital now have the option of giving their premature babies *donor* breast milk.
Sometimes, for various reason, a mother isn't able to provide breast milk. But now a milk bank in Kansas City is making it an option.
Dr. Hilmo says decades ago, breast milk banks were common, but times have changed.
Over the last several years, pasteurized donor breast milk has made a come back, especially on the coasts.
Dr. Hilmo says breast milk is best, especially for preemies, who are more susceptible to a very serious bowel infection.
When their own mother's milk isn't an option, babies can still get the best.
