(KMOV) -- A south St. Louis woman is thanking News 4 for helping her hold her negligent neighbor accountable.

The problem started after Crystal Mueller says a massive tree fell from her neighbor’s yard in late December and crashed through the roof of the home next door.

“It makes me paranoid when I hear noises,” She said. “I think, ‘ok, is that branches or did my house just collapse?’”

Crystal tried for weeks to get the tree removied, but the house has been vacant for several years and the owner lives in Jefferson County.

But there’s more. The tree was growing in the middle of the property line between the vacant home and a third home, which is owned by someone who lives in West Virginia.

After emails, voice mails and calls to insurance companies, Mueller called City Hall.  Even though the tree was on private property, the city told the property owners to remove the tree or pay for the city to do it.

News 4 called the owner of the vacant home. An hour after speaking with News 4, he called a tree service to get a bid on removing the tree.

It turns out the property owner kept his promise and the tree has since been removed. As for Mueller, she says she can now move forward with plans to sell her home.
