(KMOV.com) -- A letter obtained by News 4 shows the Ferguson-Florissant School District may have falsified student attendance records and that might explain why the superintendent was put on leave.
Over the past few weeks, there has been a huge backlash in the school district when the school board placed Dr. Art McCoy on administrative leave.
At last week’s school board meeting, members could not give a straight answer as to why McCoy was removed, but the letter from the state suggests the district may have to give money back to Missouri for falsifying records.
Officials with the state confirm the district reported itself for attendance rate falsification, but there is no word on how much the district will have to pay back to the state.
The St. Louis School District is dealing with a similar issue that took place at Patrick Henry Downtown Academy in 2011. The district had to reimburse the state $145,000.
