Do you think Whole Foods health discount incentive program is a good idea?
(KMOV)-- A new program that offers employees incentives for being in shape is creating controversy for Whole Foods.
Whole Foods CEO John Mackey said the program is voluntary and it's an effort to lower the amount of money spent on employee health care.
Workers can increase their store discount based on meeting certain health criteria. That includes blood pressure, cholesterol, and body mass index.
None of the participants can smoke. The employee discounts run from 22% to 30%. Staff members who choose not to participate will still get a 20% discount.
Some critics say the program is discriminatory. But since workers who don't participate still keep their original discount, supporters say the program is a great incentive.
