(KMOV.com) – Some players in youth football are learning how to reduce their risk of head and neck injuries.

The Fairfax County, VA Youth Football League is among 2800 youth football organizations from across the country that are taking part in a new training program designed to limit dangerous injuries.

USA Football received funding from the NFL to develop the program. Coaches receive special instruction on conducting drills, monitoring player safety, and fitting equipment properly.

"Keeping your head up when you're impacting was what really sold me,” said parent Lincoln Hayes.”I immediately signed up my older two sons, same day."

The program is currently being used by 32 high schools in eight states. For more information on Heads Up, click here.
