(KMOV) -- A Metro-East woman suffering from complications from weight loss surgery is issuing a warning about the dangers of the procedure.

Ashley Delp, 26, is in ICU and in need of a liver transplant.  Ever since her gastric bypass surgery in 2010, Delp’s family says the young woman has suffered the consequences of mistakes and bad reactions from the procedure.

“It just makes me sick to my stomach knowing some other mother or father will have to go through this,” Ashley’s mother, Wendy Delp told News 4.

Ashley Delp weighed 370 pounds before her surgery and has now withered down to about 110 pounds and in poor health.

From her hospital bed, Ashley penned a letter with a warning about the weight loss surgery that her mother read to News 4.

“She said the people that want to have it done, they should really research it because it can cause many problems, it can cost you your life, it can cause more problems than they tell you,” the letter said.

Ashley’s family is now planning a fundraiser to help pay for Ashley’s medical bills.  It will be held on June 22 from 1-8 p.m. at the VFW hall in Bethalto.

There is also a trust fund set up for Ashley Delp at the Bank of Edwardsville.
