(KMOV) – Officials with the CDC have a new warning about deli meat.

It is now recommended that anyone who eats lunch meat, especially those over the age of 50,  cook it to 165 degrees before consumption to avoid a Listeria infection, which is a food-borne illiness.

The CDC also recommends that sliced meat should not be kept open or for more than five days.

Other health officials, however, have said heating deli meat isn’t necessary.
