(KMOV)-- The nation’s largest physician group officially announced its support of bath salt bans, which many local areas have already outlawed.
Bath salts are not officially considered narcotics, but the American Medical Association has adopted a national policy against the drug.
Bath salts were banned in Collinsville just last week. The city followed suit after others like Alton, Granite City, and Fairview Heights outlawed them.
The AMA acknowledges people are abusing the drug, and the synthetic substance can cause paranoia, hallucinations, even violent behavior. Users often snort or ingest bath salts to get high, and the association wants sales to stop before anyone else dies.
