(KMOV.com) -- As a US Customs Agent they protect the borders, but one agent is accused of causing a pregnant woman to lose her baby.

A Texas woman says she passes through customs every day for work and one day an agent asked to search her car.

She said she complied, but the agent asked to search her purse and then grabbed her hands and threw her face down to the ground.

The woman said her doctor said the trauma she sustained during the incident forced her to miscarry her unborn child and now she’s filed a lawsuit.

“We’ve given great powers to these agents and they have to use it wisely,” said ACLU attorney Andiana Pinon, “And when we don’t hold them accountable for instances when that power is abused, it really erodes the trust.”

US Customs and Border Protection is not commenting on the accusations or the lawsuit.
