(KMOV) – News 4 is investigating safety hazards at a popular mall after a woman said she tripped on her face due to uneven pavement.

Cassandra Hayes said she took a friend’s elderly mother to shop at the Dillards in Mid-Rivers Mall on Sunday to celebrate her last chemo therapy treatment.

But the trip didn’t go as planned..

“It happened so quick, we just went like that and her walker hit the unlevel area and it caused both of us to fall and I went face first,” said Hayes.

The fall scraped Hayes’ face and jolted the 77-year-old woman. She says the management at Dillards and mall security were not prepared, much less compassionate.

“I said, ‘you all don’t have first-aid kits?’ And he said no,” Hayes said.

To prevent more accidents, News 4 called mall security and the management company for Mid Rivers Mall, but they have yet to respond.

And as of Thursday evening, nothing had been fixed.

“I hope they do something about the pavement, especially since it’s a handicapped ramp,” said Hayes.

News 4 will continue to make calls about the issue until mall officials respond with their plans on handling the problem.
