(KMOV) – A 51-year-old woman was killed after a semi-truck landed on top of her vehicle near Edwardsville, Ill. on Thursday.

Police say the driver of a dump truck was traveling westbound on Highway 140 around 10 a.m. when the driver lost his tail gate, which then struck a semi-truck carrying milk heading in the opposite direction.

The semi-truck then rolled over onto its side and landed on top of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of another vehicle that hit the tractor trailer was taken to a hospital in Alton with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both directions of Highway 140 were closed while crews worked to clear the scene. It was not known when the highway would reopen.

Additional information was not immediately available.
