(KMOV) – A 28-year-old Warrenton woman was arrested after she allegedly spanked her 3-year-old son too hard and hit him in the head with a sippy cup.

Heather Baugh was charged with abuse of a child.

According to court documents, Baugh’s child in November was taken to the hospital, where he was found with severe bruises on his spine, shoulders, face, ears, groin, chest and top of the head.

It was later determined that six calls had been made to a Missouri child abuse center regarding her son’s injuries.

Police talked to Baugh, who said she had been the only person caring for her son in the two weeks the injuries occurred. She told officers she spanked her son sometimes in excess. She said abrasions to the top of his head might have been caused when she hit him with a sippy cup.

Baugh also said she would physically run into the boy while he walked in the hallway, causing him to sometimes fall into door jams.

Baugh was arrested and taken into custody on a $10,000 bail.
