(KMOV Weather App) -- Snow continues to fall from areas around metropolitan St. Louis to the south and east, and a winter weather advisory continues across much of that same area.  Southern portions of the News 4 viewing area have been taking the brunt of the storm so far.

Hardest hit is an area from Washington County east into St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve Counties, where trained weather spotters have already reported pockets of over 4 inches of snow.  There are reports that many roads are closed in the Potosi, MO area, and that the heavy wet snow is causing tree limbs to snap and fall.

The snow will gradually wind down later this evening, ending entirely by midnight tonight.  Until that time, travelers heading south and east of St. Louis should be ready to drive into areas where snow covers the road, and should exercise extreme caution.

For the St. Louis metro area, this was another close call.  The timing of the snow caused some delays during the busy evening rush hour, but residents in this area missed the worst of it.  Much of the immediate St. Louis area won’t see any accumulation out of this storm at all.  Others could see up to an inch.  It’s areas to the south and southeast that are really taking a beating from Mother Nature.

Here are some other snowfall totals as of 7:30 PM…
