MERAMEC, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police and emergency crews worked to free a driver whose vehicle became trapped underneath a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 44 near Missouri 141 on Friday evening.

The accident happened on westbound Interstate 44 around 4:45 p.m. Emergency workers were able to free the driver from the vehicle around 5 p.m

According to authorities, a red Monte Carlo was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car then spun counter-clockwise, ending up perpendicular to the roadway and underneath the semi truck. The truck then dragged the car for about a quarter of a mile, before coming to a stop.

The 22-year-old driver of the car was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The two right lanes of westbound I-44 were closed as crews worked to clear the scene.
