Suspect sought after car crashes into utility pole, causes power outage in Metro East

Just after 3:00 a.m. on Landmarks Blvd., the suspect’s vehicle struck a utility pole which landed on power lines causing a power outage to over 10,000 customers.

Alton, Ill. (KMOV) – Authorities are searching for a suspect after a vehicle struck a utility pole causing power outages to several thousand customers in Alton and Godfrey early Sunday morning.

Just after 3:00 a.m. on Landmarks Blvd., the suspect’s vehicle struck a utility pole which landed on power lines causing a power outage to over 10,000 customers.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident, according to police. Police said they are attempting to locate the suspect and vehicle.

Authorities said there were 8,500 outages in Alton and 4,300 in Godfrey around 4:00 a.m.  Ameren Illinois restored the power to residents by 8:00 a.m.
