OKAWVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- A tornado peeled back roofs and uprooted trees in Okawville, Illinois Tuesday evening. As of Tuesday night there were no reports of injuries.
The Robersons got a call from friends in St. Louis that the storm was about to hit them. They heard the sirens go off and they went into the basement.
“I thought it was over with and I came back up,” said Timothy Roberson. “And it was swirling around and I told my wife it looks like Twister out here. So I ran back downstairs and then came up and saw all the damage.”
The Roberson's barn roof was torn off and three apple trees were completely uprooted. They couldn’t tell if their home suffered any damage since it was dark outside.
Several properties were hit off Highway 177, east of Interstate 64. Several sheds were completely mangled and farm equipment was damaged.
One home had part of its roof torn off and the family put a tarp over it to keep water from pouring inside.
Okawville residents expect to get a better look at things Wednesday. In the daylight, they will be able to get a better feel for just how destructive the tornado was.
