(KMOV) – Thousands attended the annual “Lewis and Clark Heritage Days” on the riverfront in St. Charles.

“There are so many intersections of history here in St. Charles,” said Mona Hodgeson, author of several historical fiction books, many of which take place in St. Charles. “My stories are written in the 1800s and there was just a lot going on here in St. Charles in the 1800s.”

During the event, there are parades and a re-enactment of Lewis and Clark’s encampment in 1804.

Hodgson spent part of Friday afternoon with students at the Academy of the Sacred Heart talking about history and writing.

The Heritage Days also continue Sunday in Frontier Park in St. Charles.
