ST. CHARLES, Mo (KMOV.com) – Two people are in custody after they led police on a chase that started in St. Peters and ended in a St. Charles creek Wednesday night.
Travis A. McClure, 21, was charged with resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police pulled McClure over around 7 p.m. in St. Peters after running the plates on his car. Authorities said the plate information verified the vehicle was connected to a crime in the St. Louis Metro area.
Authorities said when the officer questioned McClure, he gave a fake name.
The officer returned to the squad car to gather more information. That’s when the officer discovered McClure gave a name of a person wanted for armed robbery.
As the officer was waiting for backup, McClure drove off. The officer pursued McClure into St. Charles, where he crashed the vehicle into a creek.
McClure then got out of the car and ran.
Police could not immediately locate McClure.
His girlfriend, 19-year-old Victoria Knight, a passenger in the car, was taken into custody at the scene.
A man called police later Wednesday night after he saw someone run through his yard. Police responded and searched the area.
They eventually located McClure hiding in a nearby creek around 9 p.m.
Knight, who allegedly helped McClure provide false information to police, was later charged with hindering arrest.
