HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV) – Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was robbed at gunpoint just after leading a Hazelwood restaurant.

Police said the victim had just left the California Grill in the 7200 block of N. Lindbergh around 11 p.m. when a man approached.

The victim told police the man told her to give him her wallet without saying anything or he would shoot her.

She gave him the wallet and he took off running.

Surveillance video at the scene captured the suspect inside the restaurants minute before the robbery. He was wearing a black and white striped hooded sweatshirt.

The video shows him walking in the restaurant and sitting down. Minutes later, walked out and waits for the victim, who was the restaurant’s last customer.

In response, Captain Gregg hall with Hazelwood Police says they are putting more police officers in shopping centers. St. Louis County will also be adding patrols.

Even with the added police presence, shoppers say the risk will always be there.

“When you get in and out of your car you should lock everything up and you’ll be ok," said shopper Joyce Volmert. "You just have to realize you’re out there and you could be the next one."

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Hazelwood police.
