(KMOV.com) – The Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge caused confusion for drivers Monday morning, a day after the 'Stan Span' officially opened.
Early Monday morning, drivers trying to access the bridge from the Illinois side using the Interstate 70 west exit towards Kansas City noticed a “closed” sign over the road, even though the bridge was officially opened.
Illinois Department of Transportation crews said they would be working to remove the "closed" signs on I-70 on Monday.
Most drivers who use GPS units were also running into issues because the newly-opened bridge does not show up on most programs. The Google Maps software recognizes the bridge, however.
Officials expect about 40,000 cars and trucks will use the bridge daily. They expect the bridge to reduce the number of travelers across the Poplar Street Bridge each morning by about 20 percent.
