ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – St. Louis fire personnel responded to a one-alarm fire at the Riverbend Apartments around 10 p.m. Thursday after residents reported smoke in the building.
The building is a residential high-rise and, according to Captain Sutter with the SLFD, over 100 residents self-evacuated.
The fire reportedly started on the sixth floor as a cooking accident. Smoke set off fire alarms which alerted fire crews.
Despite the evacuation, firefighters never actually had to extinguish flames.
Fire crews waited with elderly residents rather than evacuating them.
Fire fighters cleared smoke quickly and there were no injuries.
