They came, they poured, they left.

A line of thunderstorms rumbled across the St. Louis metropolitan area Monday morning, producing heavy rain and frequent lightning.

The rain was a welcome sight. Parts of the News 4 viewing area are now in a state of moderate drought, and the 4Warn Storm Team says any rain is beneficial in what has recently been a dry weather pattern. Early rainfall reports have topped 1.5 inches in parts of our area, but that number is steadily rising.

"The cold front that helped generate this rain will not move through St. Louis until late this afternoon or early this evening, so another round of stormy weather can’t be ruled out between now and then," said News 4 Meteorologist Matt Chambers. "However, it appears as though the greatest threat of severe storms will be well south of St. Louis."
