(KMOV.com) -- St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson took to his blog on Wednesday to post some of his frustrations.

Dotson titled the blog "The Sad Truth That I Wish Was Fiction: Another Chief's Rant". In the blog he posts his feelings on the controversial gun docket. He also talks about how repeat offenders seem to receive a slap on the wrist.

Chief Dotson describes a career criminal who was arrested four times for violent crimes involving guns. The criminal, most recently, was released when he paid 10 percent of his $5,000 bail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The criminal fled and received a $40,000 bond for failure to appear court.

The chief says, “the message sent appears to be: if you repeatedly commit violent crimes, the courts might just let you out for $500 cash bond.  But if you do something serious like make a judge angry by not showing up in court, THEN they might FINALLY get tough and set your bail at $40,000.”

The post ends with the chief stating, “I definitely don’t understand how anyone can defend a status quo that allows things like this to happen”.
