(KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County Police have not lost an officer in the line of duty since October of 2000. But the department will still remember past victims during its annual memorial ceremony on Friday.

County Police officers said there are a few reasons for the recent success in keeping officers alive. They include technology, training and some luck.

At one point St. Louis County had an officer killed every six years.

“Every recruit that comes out of the academy is that much more trained what worst case scenario than before,” said St. Louis County Officer Randy Vaughn.

The memorial takes place at 10 a.m.
