ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV) – Some St. Charles deputies are speaking out against their boss.
The deputies have created the Save our Sheriff Department Campaign to fight against a measure that would change the sheriff’s department to a county police department.
That would mean the police chief would be appointed, a change from the current system where the sheriff is elected.
St. Charles County Sheriff Tom Neer says it would ensure a qualified person is in charge of law enforcement in the county.
But some deputies disagree.
”The vast majority of deputies don’t feel that way,” said Bryce Steinhoff, who’s a part of the Save Our Sheriff Department Campaign. “They feel they are a very professional department and the sheriff being accountable to the people makes it more professional.”
Voters will decide on the measure on November 6.
