(KMOV.com) – Some Illinois prisoners may soon eligible for early release because the state’s prisons are full.
Three years ago Gov. Pat Quinn suspended a program that let prisoners go early because journalists from the Associated Press discovered Department of Corrections was taking shortcuts.
On Friday, the department announced a revamped sentence credit program. The state of Illinois houses 49,000 prisoners. The system only has space for 33,000.
