(KMOV) – Showers and storms moved through the St. Louis area Wednesday, bringing hail as large as ping pong balls to some parts of the region. It's a theme expected to stick around throughout the next couple of days.

The storms producing hail popped up around the northern parts of the News 4 viewing area late Wednesday morning, prompting several counties to issue severe storm warnings.

Those storms were expected  to continue in the region through lunchtime.

Pictures of large hail were sent into the newsroom by News 4 viewers living in Barnhart, Mo., Imperial, Mo. and Waterloo, Ill., among others.

The batch of current storms is expected to move north and out of the St. Louis area late Wednesday afternoon and evening.

“Isolated strong to severe storms are still possible, but these will be spotty,” said Templeton.

Another batch of more widespread storms will develop overnight and could linger through the Thursday morning drive. There’s a slight risk some of those storms will be severe.

Thursday afternoon will see some dry time with temperatures getting to the mid- to upper-70s.

Isolated but powerful storms will then develop in central Missouri in the late afternoon and are expected to roll through the St. Louis area in the evening.

“Hail, wind and tornadoes possible with these storms,” said Templeton.

Templeton said residents need to pay attention to the weather, especially late in the day and evening as storms break out across parts the area.
