(KMOV.com) - New figures show gun sales increased significantly after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Records show the FBI performed a record number of background checks for people waiting to buy guns. Background checks usually take around 10 minutes to complete but because of increased demand, they are now taking as long as an hour.

Black Friday was a record setting day for gun purchases. 154,000 guns were sold on that day alone.

As a result, the price of guns is rising. Assault weapons such as the A.R. 15 rifle, which has been used in several mass shootings including the massacre at Sandy Hook, are becoming difficult to find.
