VALLEY PARK, Mo (KMOV.com) – News 4 has obtained dashcam video of the DUI arrest of former Valley Park Mayor Nathan Grellner.
Police said Grellner was driving on Highway 30 in Jefferson County on June 12 when he was stopped by officers for speeding.
Byrnes Mill Police Chief Ed Locke said the man identified himself as a public official, but did not get any special treatment.
Police said Grellner smelled of alcohol and may have been under the influence of something else.
Police said when the officer got back into his car to run the driver’s name through the computer, Grellner drove away. He went about a half mile and turned down a couple streets before running into a dead end.
Police said Grellner then got out of his car and refused to obey the officer’s command and even started to fight with him.
Locke said the officers had to pepper spray Grellner and even handcuffed him, but he was still combative.
Police said they had to eventually put a mask on him so he wouldn’t spit on officers.
He was later charged and resigned from his duties as mayor.
